Sunshine, Sea Days & a Birthday at Sea: Birthday Cruising on Carnival Pride out of Baltimore

There is just something magical about trading snow boots for flip flops in February.
We just returned from a blissful week escaping the Connecticut cold and sailing to the Bahamas — and once we got there, it was nothing but sunshine and warmth for days. It also marked a fun personal milestone: a three-year streak of celebrating my birthday at sea! It all started when I turned 40 aboard Icon of the Seas on just her third-ever sailing. Since then, I may have created a birthday tradition I don't want to break.
Why We Chose Baltimore This Time
February vacation flights? WORSE than Christmas pricing.
So instead of flying, we opted to drive just under six hours to the Port of Baltimore — and I’m so glad we did.
This was our second time sailing from Baltimore (our very first cruise years ago was on Carnival Legend out of this same port), and it was just as easy as we remembered. Parking was simple, embarkation was smooth, and we were onboard within 20 minutes.
And yes… we made it straight to lunch. Including Carnival’s famous Funfetti cake — only available on embarkation day — which tasted even better because it was my actual birthday.
Small Ship… Big Surprise
After several mega-ship sailings recently, I’ll admit I was curious how I’d feel stepping back onto a smaller vessel.
The stairwells felt a bit tighter, yes — but overall? Carnival Pride did not disappoint.
What I loved:
Extremely easy navigation (no getting lost!)
Familiar favorites like Family Feud and Love & Marriage
Great comedy shows
A lively piano bar
Where this ship truly shined? Service and food.
On larger ships, service can sometimes feel less personal, and meals can take longer (or arrive less than piping hot). On Pride, the experience felt more attentive and relaxed. The food consistently arrived hot, flavorful, and enjoyable. I genuinely liked almost everything I ordered. The servers were all amazing!
While there are fewer specialty dining options compared to newer mega ships, we still enjoyed:
A celebratory birthday dinner at Fahrenheit 555
A sushi lunch date one afternoon
And it was perfect for us.

The Ports: Three Perfect Escapes
The itinerary was exactly what we needed to thaw out:
🌴 Half Moon Cay
A classic beach day. Powdery sand. Clear water. Relaxation mode fully activated. BONUS: We brought our own snorkel masks for some fun fish finding!
🌊 Nassau
We opted for a resort day pass — a great way to enjoy pools, beach access, and amenities without the crowds. We have gone to Margaritaville twice, but this time we opted for the
British Colonial, and I LOVED it!
☀️ Celebration Key
This has quickly become one of our favorite stops. It’s beautifully designed, easy to navigate, and ideal for a mix of lounging and exploring.

The only downside? Because the ship had to begin the longer return trip to Baltimore, we had to be back on board by 12:30 pm that final port day. I’d love to see a future itinerary adjustment that allows a full day there!
Our Vista Suite Experience (Cabin 8268)
We were upgraded to a Vista Suite — and I absolutely loved the layout.
Highlights:
Walk-in closet (game changer!)
Double sinks
Larger shower with tub
Separate living and sleeping spaces
Corner aft balcony

It felt spacious and comfortable — perfect for a birthday week.
That said, I always like to share the honest details too.
Because our suite was directly below the Serenity Deck, we did experience some debris blowing down onto the balcony. We also noticed soot accumulation (likely from the ship’s aft). We learned quickly to:
Avoid stepping on the balcony in socks
Put towels down before sitting
Shake out clothing carefully
Tony’s swimsuit even ended up with black spots on day one before we realized what was happening.
For reference, this was cabin #8268 — something I hadn’t seen mentioned in prior reviews, so it’s helpful to know if choosing a similar location.
Final Thoughts: Would We Sail Again?
Absolutely.
We had a wonderful birthday cruise, enjoyed incredible weather, experienced attentive service, and visited ports we’d return to again and again — especially in the middle of a Connecticut winter.
Sailing from Baltimore made the entire trip more affordable and convenient during peak travel season, and sometimes avoiding airports is the best vacation decision you can make.
If you’re looking to:
Escape the cold
Avoid expensive flights
Celebrate a milestone at sea
Or simply relax somewhere warm and sunny
I’d love to help you plan it.
There’s truly no better way to celebrate another year around the sun than sailing toward one.
